Description To mark the Universit de Moncton's 50th anniversary, the Socit historique acadienne (SHA) will hold a conference entitled L'Acadie, l'histoire et l'ducation, on Saturday, February 16, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Pavillon Adrien-J.-Cormier on the Moncton campus.

This conference is intended for the members of the SHA, students, professors and public school teachers, as well as anyone who is interested in Acadian history. Presented in conjunction with Heritage Week, which runs from February 11 to 18, this conference will highlight the contributions that the Universit de Moncton and the SHA have made in terms of Acadian history and heritage.

The program includes a conference with Sylvie Lebel of the New Brunswick Department of Education and Early Childhood Development on historical content and teaching methods in the province's Francophone schools. In addition, the curator of the Muse acadien of the Universit de Moncton, Jeanne Mance Cormier, will give a conference on the transfer of knowledge through museums and the methods used to inform the public about its historical object collections and archival records.

Sylvie Ladouceur from the Institut d'tudes acadiennes (Institute of Acadian studies) will talk about the social phenomenon of carnivals and more specifically the various forms of historical, literary, ethnic, and occupational representation at winter carnivals in southeastern New Brunswick.

Later on, history students Laura Huet, Carolynn McNally, and Franois LeBlanc will present their research projects, and historians Maurice Basque and Gregory Kennedy will give a presentation on the historiography of and recent trends in Acadian history. The formal part of the conference will close with a round table on the evolution of Acadian history.

Participants will then be invited to tour the sites of historical value or heritage located at the Universit de Moncton, i.e. the offices of the SHA, the Centre dtudes acadiennes Anselme-Chiasson, and the Muse acadien.
