Biography

My name is Scott Godfrey, also Cgnastrand. I am a graduate of Kennebecasis High School, and a graduate of UNBSJ. I am a native of New Brunswick and have been writing for about thirty years. I live in Saint John though I have traveled a bit. I am an English tutor and was an English teacher.

How has New Brunswick influenced your work?

NB has influenced my work because of its position in Canada, being so small and out of the way no one notices us while paradoxically having all influences of the entire world come here, artistically, socially, and creatively speaking. We are no one, and we are everyone.

What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?

My favourite NB books are two-fold, James De Mille's Copper Cylinder and Dyjan Fergu’s The Electric Kiss, and the reason for both is that both are the earliest science fiction works in the Maritimes, and perhaps in all of Canada.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?

The highlight of career will be when I am one of the most well-known Canadian writers of the next century.

Excerpt:

In the City of the Stairs cameras watch everyone's movements, creating a world under glass. However rather than being monitored by some obscure dictatorship everyone has the ability to watch everyone else whenever they want. In this world there is talk of a master criminal, hints of a war going on behind the scenes. Now Raymond Grey, police commissioner of one part of the COS has become caught in the crossfire, and when the smoke clears, he will discover his world, his universe, is stranger, more terrifying, and more remarkable than he ever expected.
