Biography

Don Bourque was born in Moncton and raised in Dieppe. After graduating from Moncton High School, he attended Carleton University in Ottawa before returning. For the past few decades, he's settled in Irishtown.

Having served 37 years in the Canadian Armed Forces as an Army Reservist, and working in human services in civilian life, Don is now retired from both. He's both Stepdad and Grandpa.

How has New Brunswick influenced your work?

Our small province has a wealth of personality when we take the time to observe. It also has its share of dark undercurrents like racism and bullying which, by addressing in a fantasy setting allows a lesson to be given without identifying real-time groups.

What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?

Mugged by Seagulls – a refreshing travel adventure by Matthew Klem. The title alone is enough to grab your attention, and I won't give any spoilers. Suffice to say, his humorous anecdotes are a treasure.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?

With two career streams (military and civilian) I'll just name the highlight of my military career, which was my three-year command of the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise's) in Moncton and Sussex.
