Biography
Jeannie Collins Beaudin is a retired pharmacist who worked in Fredericton, NB, for over 30 years. She graduated from Harrison Trimble High School in Moncton and now lives in Cap-Pele, NB. She has been a regular columnist for Pharmacy Practice, a Canada-wide journal for pharmacists, since 2006. In February 2019, she published her first book, Can I Speak to the Hormone Lady? Managing Menopause and Hormone Imbalances. This book is based on her specialized work as a hormone consultant pharmacist.
As a pharmacy owner in the province for 14 years, she received several awards for her innovative pharmacy practice. She has also shared her knowledge with the public and other health professionals in many presentations, and still helps to deliver injection training to pharmacists in NB. She continues to share health information through her blog, located on her website: http://jeanniebeaudin.wixsite.com/author.
How has New Brunswick influenced your work?
I worked my entire pharmacy career in New Brunswick, as a staff community pharmacist, hospital pharmacist, pharmacy owner and, finally, a relief pharmacist giving others vacations and days off. I was also privileged to participate in several provincial initiatives: increasing health research in NB, reducing tobacco use, training pharmacists to give injections and many others. All of these activities have contributed to the knowledge and opinions I developed and now write about in blogs and books. I have also reached many through the hundreds of presentations I have given on health topics. It has been wonderful living and working in a small province where you can really get involved and truly make a difference.
What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?
This is New Brunswick by Gerry Childs. Gerry was a long-standing client of mine when I owned my pharmacy. He created a wonderful collection of photographs that showcase the beauty of our province and, in addition to the copy I keep on display in the guest room of my home, the book has been a wonderful gift to several friends and family.
What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?
The publication of my non-fiction book, based on my work as a specialty pharmacist, is the highlight of my writing career thus far. I hope that the information it contains will help many women.

Can I Speak to the Hormone Lady? Managing Menopause and Hormone Imbalances (2019) |
Excerpt: There are many general books on menopause, but this book is for those who want to know more than the basics. The information in Can I Speak to the Hormone Lady? is based on scientific studies, 40 years experience as a pharmacist, and my work as a hormone specialist for over 10 years. Some call me, "The Hormone Lady.” As a pharmacist, I have knowledge of prescription and non-prescription menopause treatment, including herbal medications. I have also learned from and for the hundreds of hormone clients I treated over the years, many of whom came to me after experiencing problems with standard prescription treatments. In addition to referenced information and detailed descriptions of hormones and how they work, I have included the system for analyzing hormone imbalances I successfully used in my practice for years, with explanations of what to look for and what it all means. The purpose of my book is to enable women to understand what is happening when hormones become imbalanced, and what they can do to get back to normal. |
