Biography
STEVE C. ESTON has been a lover of the fantastical and the scientific since he was a young boy. He wrote his first story by hand while still in elementary school – a five-page story about a tiger-masked ninja fighting mythical monsters that included his own illustrations.
Steve grew up in the village of Trudel, in the Acadian Peninsula. He attended Polyvalente Louis-Mailloux in Caraquet before obtaining a Bachelor of Computer Science (1998) and a Master of Business Administration (2017) from the Université de Moncton. He works as a manager in Technology Services for the Government of Canada. He currently lives in Fredericton with his wife Leigh, and their children.
What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?
I highly recommend Bistro and Monkey Temple, two books by Roger Moore. They are creative and intelligent, while showing Roger's incredible ability to play with words.
What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?
The publication of my first story, The Burden of the Protector, is an achievement of which I'm especially proud. It is a fantasy novella and the self-publication process took over five years, from inception and the initial draft, to the publication of the eBook (2016) and the printed copy (2017). Going through the process from beginning to end was an eye-opening and enriching experience.

Excerpt: How far would you go to keep your dreams alive? On the arid planet of Garadia floats Prominence City, an oasis of abundance and technological marvels. For Keidi and Artenz, life is good. Each day, they work hard to fulfill their role in sustaining Prominence. In return, they share an existence without worry or want, their every need attended to by the ruling corporations, their lives enhanced by a virtual reality accessible with a simple thought. But when a dear friend of Keidi goes suddenly missing, their idyllic existence begins to crumble. And when they start asking questions – the wrong questions, questions that reveal cracks in Prominence’s perfect image – the powerful corporations of Prominence take notice. Now, Keidi and Artenz must choose: do they stay in Prominence and risk the wrath of the corporations, or do they take their chances and run for the Lowlands – a bleak and mysterious place hidden beneath Prominence – if it even exists at all. |
