Biography

I live in Baie de Petit-Pokemouche, N.B. and I attended high school in Shippagan. I attended the Université de Moncton and universities in the United States and Grenoble. I have a Ph.D. in education and an honours degree in social gerontology and psychogerontology and I teach gerontology. I am a person-centered counsellor, trained in the Carl Rogers and Colette Portelance approach. I have been working as a person-centered counsellor for 12 years. I participate in the PCAI-France (Person-Centered Approach Institute) as a facilitator for future French psychotherapists.

How has New Brunswick influenced your work?

New Brunswick encouraged the emergence of the educator and therapist in me, in mastering my mother tongue, French, and my second language, English. This resulted in my being the recipient of an award from the French government in 1985 to pursue my studies in France.

What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?

Vivre la retraite avec sérénité : un temps pour la rencontre de soi. Why? Retirement is a time to reprocess your life. It is the most important transition, after adolescence, when you enter the last stage of your adult life.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?

It was having done two presentations, one in Rome in 2010 on psychic autonomy of the elderly and the other was in Jerusalem in 2012, on relational cognition.
