Biography

Born in Kedgwick, New Brunswick, Micheline Deschênes taught French at the middle school level in Atholville, New Brunswick and in Montreal, Québec. She completed her secondary school studies at l’école Marie-Gaëtane in Kedgwick and her post-secondary studies at Université de Moncton. Following her retirement in 2000, writing became one of her passions. She is the author of two short story collections: Libérer la vie (2002) and Au-delà des apparences (2005).

Chemin faisant (2009) is her first novel.

What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?

Edmond Landry’s La Charlotte des battures is my favorite New Brunswick novel because the author is a personal acquaintance. He is kind, simple, modest, always friendly towards others, a person who managed to stay true to himself throughout the years.

His novel reflects who he is and what is most important to him: humanity, solidarity, helping one another, and the acceptance of differences, without exceptions.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?

The interest and trust in my work, expressed by my readers, has touched me profoundly, as well as the stories they share with me following my book readings. These personal testimonies inspire me and motivate me to continue.
