How has New Brunswick influenced your work?
My first stories were inspired by the natural world I see around me. The adventures of AmiSoleil take place in real, natural settings. Through my stories, the reader discovers an important facet of nature and the environment. It’s like discovering New Brunswick from an ecological point of view.
Nature walks and outdoor family adventures inspire my books. They are a harmonious blend of places both real and imagined, of truths and inventions.
What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?
Antonine Maillet’s La Sagouine, whose titular character was played by Viola Léger, was a great inspiration for me. It is one of my favourite books and holds a special place in my heart. Beyond the page, it is even more precious for its deep insights on society, its humour, and as a source of inspiration.
What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?
When I had the chance to participate in the Bataille des livres [Battle of the Books] in Geneva (Switzerland) and share with the children of that country the natural beauty of my province through my stories.
