Biography

Robert Levesque has a degree in Health Sciences from the Edmundston campus of the Université de Moncton and a bachelor’s degree in Science with a major in Math and a minor in Physics (also from the Université de Moncton). He entered the world of teaching after completing a bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of Maine, followed by a master’s degree in Education at that same university. He completed his academic journey with a Ph.D. in Administration fom Université Laval.

He began his career at Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany high school in Edmundston and was a physics and math teacher there for 17 years. He also served as the head of the math and science departments. In addition, he was a distance education teacher for the New Brunswick Department of Education and Early Childhood Development for seven years.

A presenter to APTICA (Association pour l’avancement pédagogique des technologies de l’information et de la communication en Atlantique), as well as to the GRMS (Groupe responsable des mathématiques au secondaire) and to the FCÉNB (Fédération des conseils de l’éducation du Nouveau-Brunswick), he received the national Microsoft Innovative Teacher Award in 2007, and represented our country at various conferences in Finland and Vietnam. He was recognized by his peers when he received the Université de Moncton’s teaching excellence award for 2015-2016 during convocation.

He is currently an associate professor and head of the Education and Kinesiology sector at the Edmundston Campus of the Université de Moncton. He was elected to the Education Council of his school district and to the Fédération des Conseils de l’Éducation du Nouveau-Brunswick.



How has New Brunswick influenced your work?

The work in question reflects the reality of elementary school classrooms in New Brunswick. There are the familiar challenges that New Brunswickers experience on a daily basis.

What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?

Everything written by Sébastien Bérubé… powerful words, sometimes upsetting, that make you think.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?

Having the chance to work in the field of education. What an enriching and exciting career in which you can influence people’s lives.

L'auteur, après avoir des de nombreuses recherches et avoir recueilli de nombreux témoignages, s'inspire de ces histoires pour écrire ce manuscrit. Il fait vivre le tout à un personnage féminin, une enseignante au primaire, qui nous offre le contenu sous le format d'un journal intime. L'auteure explique, dans une introduction : « (...) Les commentaires/enregistrements ont souvent été recueillis dans le feu des émotions avec les sentiments reliés à l'événement, soit la colère, la confusion, l'empathie, la passion, la sympathie, la joie, bref tout ce que l'on peut ressentir. Les scénarios transcrits ne sont donc pas vérifiés ni validés. » Les péripéties commencent avec le début des classes. De jour en jour, nous suivons ses petites aventures ainsi que le développement de certaines situations et de certains élèves. Celle-ci aborde plusieurs sujets, parfois troublants, émouvants et hilarants. Nous voyons de son point de vue la réalité à laquelle font face tous ces enseignants.
