Biography

Russell Carisse is currently living on unceded Wolastoqiyik territory near Chipman, New Brunswick. Here they have resettled from Toronto off-grid with their family of people and animals, to grow food and practice other forms of underconsumption.

How has New Brunswick influenced your work?

The threatened natural beauty, of course. But, the cost of living compared to Toronto has allowed myself to retire from masonry, giving me the time and energy to write.

What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?

Every book of theNew Brunswick Chapbook Series of Frog Hollow Press [that] I have read so far. Simon Brown's chapbook, This Mud, A Word, is a particular favourite. The permeative thread of being runs through the whole work.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?

The highlight is being able to share my words with others.
