John K. Sutherland was born in York, England, during the Second World War, and spent most of his school holidays on his uncle’s farm, in Teesdale. He attended grammar school and then attended Manchester University where he graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Geology. He then went on to a PhD. He was offered a job in Canada in 1965 and has been in New Brunswick ever since. He changed careers about 1980 when, because of his strong chemistry background, he moved into nuclear science with the local utility, and taught graduate engineers at the University of New Brunswick as an ad hoc professor on three separate occasions.

All of his early writing was scientific and educational, with forays into writing about the not so good ‘Good old Days’ as well as writing about risk. He has been writing fiction—poorly—for decades, for relaxation, and decided, about 2008, that he had better consider finishing off some of what he had written. His first book, Deception by Proxy, was self-published in 2010. So far he has seven novels to his credit, along with five erotica titles, three non-fiction works, and about thirty other works in progress.

He feels most comfortable writing about the time when Jane Austen lived, though other novels are set about the time of the American Civil War, and others set in the present. His most recent novel is Saving Selena, set about 1810.

He is a recent member of the Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick.
