I am a homegrown New Brunswicker; born in Moncton and never moved too far from the land I love best. I attended Moncton High School, and now reside in beautiful Albert County with my husband. I’m an author, a writer-for-hire, a speaker and a writing coach. I’m also a daughter, a wife, a grandmother, a dog-lover, a hiker, a seeker, a gatherer, a listener, a traveler, a nature nut, and a blogger.
How has New Brunswick influenced your work?
I live and write and play on the fringes of eagle, moose, bear and coyote country along the shores of the magical Bay of Fundy, which is a pretty phenomenal place to find yourself. And I mean that in more ways than one. I am intimately tied to the land here – my ancestors were the first permanent settlers – and of late, I find myself becoming fiercely protective of it. My best writing and blogging is about the power of place: the history, people, nature, environment and culture of Atlantic Canada and beyond because this is home and hearth for me. It is not only important to know where you come from, but where you belong.

Sanctuary: The Story of Naturalist Mary Majka
[This is] the story of one of Canada’s great pioneering environmentalists. [Mary Majka] was best known as a television host, a conservationist, and a driving force behind the internationally acclaimed Mary’s Point Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve on the Bay of Fundy.
Sanctuary gives full expression to the intensely personal story of Mary’s life. A daughter of privilege, a survivor of World War II Poland, an architect of dreams, Mary Majka became passionately intent on protecting fragile spaces and species for generations to come. In this amazing story of determination and foresight, you will come to know a complex, indomitable, thoroughly human being – flawed yet feisty, inspiring and inspired.
