Biography
Glen Blouin is an author and independent journalist now living in the Gatineau Hills north of Ottawa. He is a graduate of Loyola college in Montreal (Bachelor of Communication Arts), the Maritime Forest Ranger School, and the University of New Brunswick (Masters of Forestry). He served as an Extension Forest Technician with the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources for 10 years in St. Paul, Kent County, as Woodlot Education Manager in Fredericton, and as Executive Director of the Canadian Forestry Association in Ottawa for ten years. He is an award-winning member of the Society of Environmental Journalists.
How has New Brunswick influenced your work?
My experience working in the forests of New Brunswick allowed me to study and photograph the trees and shrubs of the province, to research at UNB and the Museum of Nature in Saint John, and to interview native elders on the traditional uses of these species for food, medicine, and other uses.
What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?
Both books – Weeds of the Woods and An Eclectic Guide to Trees East of the Rockies – were an opportunity to share with New Brunswickers and others some fascinating insights into our forests and the species that comprise them.
