Born Willimantic, CT, USA and graduated from Edwin Smith High School, Storrs, CT. I moved to Markhamville, N.B. in 1972, where I made furniture for 10 years. I moved to Corn Hill, NB in 1980 and started Corn Hill Nursery LTD in April 1982. I am a grower of all manner of plants.

In the 1980s I began publishing in magazines including Canadian Gardening and Fine Gardening, as well as doing weekly columns for the Times & Transcript and the CBC-Corn Hill Chronicles. My books include Roses for Canadian Gardens (1991); Hardy Trees and Shrubs (1996); and Hardy Roses (2001).
