Also chaired a short story competition while regional VP of Crime Writers of Canada. For several years I’ve been a tutor with Winghill School, a distance education school in Ottawa for aspiring writers. How has New Brunswick influenced your work?
New Brunswick has influenced my books because this is home, and I am in part a product of my roots. I know the people, the flora and fauna. The mentality and sensibilities inevitably find their way into my work.
What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?
I have enjoyed a number of books by New Brunswick writers, including Mark Blagrave, author of Silver Salts. This is a wonderful book, creative storyline and beautifully written.
What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?
It was lovely to have Chill Waters win the Bloody Dagger Award. And equally lovely to have a reader tell me my darn book kept them up all night. But the real highlight is the actual writing. That's the only thing over which I have direct control. That's the gold.
