How has New Brunswick influenced your work?

I was inspired to write my first novel, Hearts of Glass, while we lived in the Anglican rectory overlooking the Bay of Chaleur in the community of Clifton, N.B. My husband and I often recharged by taking long, leisurely walks along the nearby beach, collecting sea glass. Our home was only about one hundred feet from the bluff with a spectacular view of beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I had often thought about writing a book and this unique Maritime setting awakened the desire to fulfill that dream. The entire novel is set in New Brunswick.

Hearts of Glass

Olivia gasped with delight as she spotted the deep blue oval nestled among the multicolored stones on Stony Cove Beach. Grasping the lovely gem from its resting place, she eyed the smooth edges, caressing the frosty treasure between her thumb and index finger before placing it gently into her cotton satchel. The cool breeze from the bay refreshed her face as she took a deep breath of sea air, all of her cares and anxieties dissipating. The morning sun glistened on the morning swell. Cooling waves lapped at her bare feet. Her comfy, well-worn leather sandals dangled from her left hand as her eyes carefully scanned the beach for more sea glass.
