Hugh J. (Ted) Flemming, Q.C.
MLA, Rothesay

Hugh J. Flemming, Q.C., was elected to represent the constituency of Rothesay in a by-election on June 25, 2012. He was named Minister of Health on September 26, 2012, and was appointed Attorney General on September 23, 2013. On September 22, 2014, he was reelected as the MLA for the riding of Rothesay.

A resident of Rothesay for nearly three decades, Mr. Flemming is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick, Saint John campus, and the Faculty of Law at UNB Fredericton, where he was a Beaverbrook Law Scholar.

He practised law for more than two decades, specializing in corporate, commercial, securities, and transportation law, and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1992. Mr. Flemming currently owns several successful businesses, but has recently retired from active management.

He has been very active in his community and the Greater Saint John region. He has served as a director of the Market Square Corporation, the New Brunswick Securities Commission, the Saint John Port Authority and the Business Development Bank of Canada. He also served on the Town of Rothesay Planning Advisory Committee and as Atlantic Canada representative on the Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee.

Married for 37 years to Nancy, the couple have three adult children.
