Agriculture and Aquaculture
The northwest New Brunswick maple production was very good this year, and some producers are now processing maple syrup into valued-added maple products. In New Brunswick, there are about 200 maple producers of all sizes, and there are about 2.5 million taps, making the province the third-largest producer in the world. The industry generates nearly $15 million annually, and the maple industry employs about 2,000 people in New Brunswick for at least 12 weeks every year. During his visit in March, Minister of Agriculture and Aquaculture Ronald Ouellette (right) met with Gérald Turcotte, owner of L’Érablière du Nord-Ouest Inc. from St. Quentin, which is the largest maple producer in the world, with 162,000 taps.
