Lt.-Gov. Herménégilde Chiasson, who is Patron of the Royal Canadian Legion, recently received the symbolic first Poppy in advance of Remembrance Day from Tom Eagles, the 1st Vice-President and Poppy Chairman of New Brunswick Command of the Legion, at Old Government House in Fredericton.

Each year, about 19 million poppies are distributed in communities throughout Canada. Officially adopted by Canada in 1921 by The Great War Veterans Association––the founding group of the Royal Canadian Legion––poppies are recognized as the national symbol of remembrance for those who have served our country, in wartime and in peacetime. This year’s official campaign begins Oct. 29, 2004.  From left: Dennis Driscoll, President NB Command; Tom Eagles, Poppy Chairman and 1st Vice NB Command; Lt.-Gov. Herménégilde Chiasson, and Boyd Ring, Sgt-at-Arms, NB Command.
