On March 4, 1973, Chipman Public Library officially opened with 300 books loaned from York Regional Library. In early spring 1974, the library moved to the current location. This move allowed Chipman Public Library to become a branch of York Regional Library. In June 1990, the Trustees of Chipman Public Library made the decision to expand the present facility. A fundraising committee with 12 members was established and after pursuing several avenues for funding, the expansion was completed. The official opening was held August 1, 1992.
