Biography

Vera U. Patrick-Azodo is a Nigerian-Canadian author, reading advocate, entrepreneur, and community-builder based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Originally from Nigeria, she relocated to Canada with her family in 2023 and has since dedicated herself to promoting a culture of reading, lifelong learning, and personal transformation.

Professionally, Vera works in financial services risk management and has spent over a decade helping organizations make better decisions through risk and governance practices. Beyond her corporate career, she is the founder of The Readerz Corner Book Hub, a bookstore and reading community that helps adults and families build sustainable reading habits and engage more intentionally with books.

Through her Book Lovers Club, workshops, community events, and book initiatives, Vera has inspired hundreds of readers to rediscover the transformative power of books. Her work is driven by a simple belief: books can change lives when they are intentionally read, applied, and lived.

Vera's writing is deeply influenced by her personal journey of rebuilding her own reading life after years of inconsistency, navigating immigration, raising a family, and creating a new home in Canada while staying connected to her roots. She lives in Fredericton with her husband and children.

How has New Brunswick influenced your work?

Moving to New Brunswick marked a significant chapter in my life and influenced both my writing and community work. As a newcomer, I experienced the challenges and opportunities that come with building a new life in a new country while preserving one's identity and values.

The welcoming communities, libraries, and cultural spaces in New Brunswick reinforced my belief in the power of stories to connect people. My experiences here inspired me to create reading initiatives that help adults, families, and newcomers grow through books and lifelong learning.

Finding Me Through the Pages was written during this season of transition and reflects many of the lessons I learned about resilience, growth, and transformation.

What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?

As a relatively new resident of New Brunswick, I am still discovering the province's rich literary landscape. One of the things I look forward to most through the New Brunswick Author [Portal] is learning more about local authors and their works.

As a reading advocate, I enjoy books that tell authentic stories, preserve culture, and inspire personal growth – qualities I hope to continue discovering in New Brunswick literature.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?

While I have enjoyed a rewarding professional career in financial services risk management, the highlight of my career so far has been founding The Reader's Corner Book Hub and publishing my first book, Finding Me Through the Pages.

What makes this achievement especially meaningful is not simply becoming an author but seeing the impact of the work. Through my bookstore, reading community, workshops, and book initiatives, I have helped hundreds of adults to rediscover reading as a tool for personal growth and transformation. Knowing that my work is helping people rebuild habits, gain clarity, and change their lives through books is my greatest professional accomplishment to date.

The book introduces readers to a simple framework for assessing their reading habits, overcoming barriers, reshaping their reading identity, and creating systems that make consistent reading possible.
