Biography

Pauline grew up in Val-d’Amours, Restigouche County. A graduate of Polyvalente Roland-Pépin, she went on to study at the Université de Moncton and then at the Université de Montréal, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy. She worked in the healthcare sector for 32 years, first as an occupational therapist and then as a manager. Since retiring in January 2021, she has been busier than ever.

Currently residing in Dalhousie Junction, the ocean, the forest and the mountains are essential elements in Pauline’s equilibrium. She has also carried with her a passion for reading and writing since childhood. She loves playing with words and draws inspiration for her pieces from her surrounding environment. In addition to juggling storylines, investigations and a large cast of characters, she manages to inject a dose of humour into her writing.

To date, she has published three novels: Le bal de l’île (2021); La rose de sang (2023); and Je te tuerai encore et encore, jusqu’à ce que tu meures (2024), all featuring police investigations led by Sergeant Isabelle Surette and based in the Campbellton area of northern New Brunswick.

Pauline loves to share her passion with others and even offers workshops for those looking to enter the exciting world of writing.

How has New Brunswick influenced your work?

New Brunswick, my home province, is tattooed on my heart. I love our beautiful landscapes and our linguistic and cultural diversity. That is why my novels are set right here, in New Brunswick — specifically in the Restigouche area. My characters have names borrowed from Francophone, Anglophone and First Nation families. I use well-known places and sometimes bits of true stories, and I showcase the beauty of our region and its friendly people. From the moment I started writing, I knew the stories would be set here. It is a way of introducing people to my Acadian home and culture, my roots, and inviting them to visit the area and walk in the footsteps of my characters.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?

My career is only just getting started, so every message I receive from a reader saying how much they enjoyed one of my novels fills me with joy and encourages me to continue writing.
