Biography
Terry Evans was born on July 10, 1974, in Oromocto, NB. After graduating from Oromocto High School, he moved to Victoria, BC, where he attended college and worked as a tour guide at the Royal London Wax Museum.
A few years later, a unique opportunity led him to Japan – a country he would call home for the next 25 years. While living abroad, Terry built an extraordinary life: he founded his own English school, opened a bar, raised a family, and traveled extensively. His time in Japan was filled with unforgettable experiences – some hilarious, some heartwarming, and all deeply human.
Now back in New Brunswick, Terry has turned his life stories into a four-book memoir series titled 25 Years Under the Rising Sun, available on Amazon. Through honest, entertaining, and culturally rich storytelling, Terry continues to connect with readers and inspire others to chase adventure, embrace change, and tell their own stories.
How has New Brunswick influenced your work?
Returning to New Brunswick after 25 years in Japan was both grounding and lonely. With no immediate family nearby, it was just me and my cat, Sora. But that quiet space gave me something I never had before – time to reflect. Surrounded by the peaceful pace of small-town life, I finally sat down and started writing. The stillness of New Brunswick gave me the clarity to dig deep into my past, and the strength to share it. It's here, in the calm of home, that my stories truly found their voice.
What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?
My goal is to build a full-time career as an author and storyteller. I want to share my real-life experiences – both the highs and the hardships – with a global audience. After publishing four books in my memoir series 25 Years Under the Rising Sun, I've seen how powerful storytelling can be in connecting people across cultures. I want to continue writing, publishing, and eventually turning my stories into a TV series or film. My hope is that my journey will inspire others to embrace their own stories, no matter how ordinary or extraordinary they may seem.
