Biography

Doug Dolan was born and raised in the small village of Nelson, beside the magnificent Miramichi River in Northeast New Brunswick. [He] is a seventy-year-old novice writer.

[Doug] recently completed a work of historical fiction – The Mill – which follows the Burchill family of Miramichi over their 140-year dynasty in the lumber industry. He is also working on an anthology of Christmas-themed stories to be released in 2025.

How has New Brunswick influenced your work?

,p>The beautiful Miramichi region of New Brunswick is a backdrop for many of my stories. It often plays a larger-than-life role, as it did when I was a child and young adult.

What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?

I am a great fan of Wayne Curtis. His books demonstrate a love and knowledge of the Miramichi and its people. Wayne has patiently encouraged me on my writing journey.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?

The response from readers has been encouraging. Particularly gratifying is when a reader tells me he/she recognizes a character or a scene in a story. Writing is, by definition, a solitary exercise. The reward is when a reader feels a part of it.
