Biography
Dan Pusey lives outside of Saint John, NB, with his wife, Joy, 4 of their 5 kids: Karise, Grace, Aydin, and Melisa. (Naomi is their timeshare daughter who lives most of the time with her other family in Florida. We miss you!) [He also lives with] a dog that drives him insane, a cat that is pretty chill, and a turtle that makes him want to practise his nunchuck skills. He hates the cold, loves his Jeep, and makes what may actually be the best hummus in the galaxy.
When he’s not writing late into the night, he’s a contractor who listens to audiobooks and dreams up new stories to tell while he builds things for people.
How has New Brunswick influenced your work?
The rugged beauty of the New Brunswick landscape inspired and is (inadequately) featured in my writing. While most around the world won't experience this beauty firsthand, I hope to share it in my own way, even if only to a few.
What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?
Hot Dogs on Pizza. Love the author [Jon Hurd] and his wit and wisdom.
What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?
The reviews on the back of my first book. They're well worth a read.

Excerpt: What started as a question about a ride to school tomorrow ended up as another impromptu birthday party planning session with Ashley sitting on the end of Madison's bed, Jeremy slouching in her chair, and Mason, her little brother, rubbing his belly button all over her pillow while Madison watched helplessly from the door. "Definitely changing that pillowcase tonight," Madison told herself. Despite being fully grossed out, she couldn't help wondering why his belly button? "Maybe because he has an outie," she thought. "But I think that'd make it more uncomfortable." "Maddy?" "Huh?" Madison answered without taking her eyes from the desecrated pillow. Ashley followed Madison's grimace. A half second's confusion was followed by slumped shoulders and a sigh. "Mason, pull your shirt down," she said. He did, then rolled to his back, scooched further up the pillow, and farted. He looked over just in time to see Madison and Ashley's faces sour in unison. |
