Ryan Riordon is the son of Patrick and Riba Riordon. He grew up on the family dairy farm in Pokeshaw. He graduated from Bathurst High School in 2000 with high honours. In addition, he represented the province as the sole 4-H public speaking delegate to the Royal Winter Fair that year.
Mr. Riordon then pursued his studies at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. In 2004, he earned a Bachelor of Science (Agr.) in Animal Science, was named to the President's List for high academic achievement, and he was selected as the class Valedictorian. He was a member of the college soccer team for four years.
He subsequently conducted research on finding ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture. In 2009, he earned a Master of Science Degree in Ruminant Animal Nutrition from the NSAC in conjunction with Dalhousie University. He worked in Prince Edward Island as a livestock nutritionist for more than two years while he completed the latter part of his graduate studies. In PEI, he was a member of the Magnum PEI ultimate Frisbee team for two years.
Ryan Riordon is the Progressive Conservative Member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick for Nepisiguit. He was elected in the September 27, 2010 provincial election.
He was named Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Wellness, Culture and Sport on November 5, 2010.
In 2010, he was named a member of the Legislature's Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Standing Committee on Health Care, Select Committee on the Revision of the Official Languages Act, and Standing Committee on Estimates.
He is currently a member of the Legislature's Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Standing Committee on Privileges, Select Committee on Legislative Reform and Standing Committee on Legislative Officers.
In 2013 he was named Deputy Government House Leader by Premier David Alward.
A community-minded individual, Mr. Riordon is a member of the Herman J. Good VC Branch No.18 Royal Canadian Legion, Synergies Chaleur, the Greater Bathurst Chamber of Commerce and Rotary International. Mr. Riordon enjoys playing the guitar, ultimate Frisbee and other sports, as well as reading.
