Carl Urquhart, MLA for Carleton-York, was reelected to the 58th Legislature in the provincial election held September 22, 2014.

He is the Official Opposition Whip.

The Progressive Conservative member was first elected to the Legislature in the September 18, 2006, election. He served as official opposition critic for areas of interest related to public safety, the New Brunswick Police Commission and Kings Landing Historical Settlement. He was a member of the Standing Committees on Estimates and Law Amendments. He was also a member of the Select Committee on Life Long Learning.

He was reelected to the 57th Legislature in the provincial election held September 27, 2010, where he held the position of Deputy Speaker.

After graduating from Fredericton High School, he joined the RCMP and served for five years. In 1978, he joined the Fredericton Police Force where he completed 28 years of service. He has worked in community police, street crime, drug unit, major crime and patrol unit.

Mr. Urquhart has been involved with community and service groups: Upper Kingsclear volunteer fire department, Saint John River Salmon Anglers Association, New Brunswick Salmon Council, Atlantic Salmon Federation, Society of Saint Andrew, New Brunswick Wildlife Federation, New Brunswick Outfitters Association and Scouts Canada.

His hobbies include hunting, fishing, hiking, ATV, snowmobile and travel.

Mr. Urquhart lives on the family homestead in Upper Kingsclear.
