MLA, Moncton Northwest

Ernie Steeves was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, February 12th, 1961. His family moved to the Moncton area in 1965, where he has lived for most of his life and is now raising his son, Aidan.

Mr. Steeves was elected on September 22, 2014, as the Progressive Conservative MLA representing Moncton Northwest.

Mr. Steeves is very community-minded and has served in a variety of roles, including honorary chair for the Ride for Dad for prostate cancer. He has volunteered at the Karing Kitchen, the Moncton Headstart, the Friends of the Moncton Hospital, and, as a cancer survivor himself, the Canadian Cancer Society. In 2011, he travelled to Mumbai, India, to fulfill a personal dream of taking part in building a house with Habitat for Humanity.

Mr. Steeves is currently the Critic for Social Development. He has served as a member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Standing Committee on Estimates and Fiscal Policy and the Standing Committee on Social Policy.

Mr. Steeves is an active member in his church, serving in the past as a deacon and also as a Christian education board member. He and Aidan currently both play instruments in the church band weekly. Mr. Steeves serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Moncton Football Association and on the Board of Directors for Football New Brunswick.

Mr. Steeves is a 32 year veteran of radio broadcasting and a former owner for 9 years of Moncton CruiseShipCenters, located in Moncton Northwest.
