WHEREAS the Université de Moncton prays that it be enacted as hereinafter set forth;



THEREFORE, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, enacts as follows:



1                           Section 6 of the Université de Moncton Act, chapter 94 of the Acts of New Brunswick, 1986, is amended



(a)               by repealing subsection (2) and substituting the following:



6(2)                   The Board of Governors, which shall have the executive power of the University, shall consist of the following twenty-seven members:



(a)               the Chancellor, ex officio;



(b)               the President and Vice-Chancellor, who is the chief executive officer of the University, ex officio;



(c)                three members of the teaching staff of the University, one from each campus, elected by the said staff of each of the three campuses of the University;



(d)               three students of the University, one from each campus, to be elected by the student body of his campus;



(e)                three members, one for each of the three regions, that is the North West, the North East and the South East, to be elected by the association of alumni and friends of each of the three campuses;



(f)                three members, one from each of the three regions that is a resident of the North West, the North East and the South East, to be appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council;



(g)               three members residing in New Brunswick, but outside the North West, the North East and the South East regions, one of whom to be appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council and the other two by the Board of Governors;



(h)               six members, two from each of the three regions, that is two residents of the North West, the North East and the South East, to be appointed by the Board of Governors;



(i)                four members from outside New Brunswick, two of whom reside in the Atlantic area, to be appointed by the Board of Governors.



(b)               by adding after subsection (3) the following:



6(3.1)             The Secretary General shall attend the meetings of the Board of Governors, but without voting power.



2                           Section 7 of the Act is amended



(a)               by repealing subsection (1) and substituting the following:



7(1)                   The University shall have an Academic Senate composed of the following members:



(a)               the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University, ex officio;



(b)               the Vice-President (academic), ex officio;



(c)                the Dean of Studies of the Edmundston campus, ex officio;



(d)               the Dean of Studies of the Shippagan campus, ex officio;



(e)                the dean of each faculty of the University, ex officio;



(f)                fourteen members elected by the teaching staff of the Moncton campus;



(g)               four members elected by the teaching staff of the Edmundston campus;



(h)               two members elected by the teaching staff of the Shippagan campus;



(i)                two school directors elected by the school directors collectively;



(j)                the Chief Librarian, ex officio;



(k)                the Director General of Extension Services, ex officio;



(l)                five students as follows: one graduate student and two undergraduate students to be elected by the graduate students and the undergraduate students respectively of the Moncton campus, one student to be elected by the student body of the Edmundston campus, and one student to be elected by the student body of the Shippagan campus.



(b)               by adding after subsection (2) the following:



7(3)                   The Secretary General shall attend the meetings of the Academic Senate, but without voting power.



3                           Section 9 of the Act is amended by striking out "section 8" and substituting "subsections 8(2) and (3)".
