Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, enacts as follows:



1                           The Marine Insurance Act, chapter M-1 of the Revised Statutes, 1973, is repealed.



Consequential amendments

Insurance Act

2(1)                   Section 1 of the Insurance Act, chapter I-12 of the Revised Statutes, 1973, is amended by repealing the definition "marine insurance" and substituting the following:



"marine insurance" means insurance against losses described in subsection 6(1) of the Marine Insurance Act (Canada);



2(2)                   Section 96 of the Act is amended by striking out "Marine Insurance Act" and substituting "Marine Insurance Act (Canada)".



Premium Tax Act

3                           Section 1 of the Premium Tax Act, chapter P-15 of the Revised Statutes, 1973, is amended by repealing the definition "marine insurance" and substituting the following:



"marine insurance" means insurance against losses described in subsection 6(1) of the Marine Insurance Act (Canada);



Commencement

4                           This Act comes into force on September 1, 2005.



EXPLANATORY NOTES



Section 1



Repeal provision.



Section 2



The amendments to the Insurance Act are consequential on the repeal of the Marine Insurance Act.



Section 3



The amendment to the Premium Tax Act is consequential on the repeal of the Marine Insurance Act.
