Text of Bill :
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, enacts as follows:



1                           The preamble of the Human Rights Act, chapter H-11 of the Revised Statutes, 1973, is amended in the first paragraph by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity".



2                           Section 3 of the Act is amended



(a)               in the portion following paragraph (1)(b) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity";



(b)               in subsection (2) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity";



(c)               in the portion following paragraph (3)(c) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity";



(d)               in the portion following paragraph (4)(c) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity";



(e)               in subsection (5) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity".



3                           Section 4 of the Act is amended



(a)               in the portion following paragraph (1)(b) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity";



(b)               in the portion following paragraph (2)(b) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity";



(c)               in subsection (3) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity";



(d)               in subsection (4) by adding ", social condition, political belief or activity" after "sex".



4                           Section 5 of the Act is amended



(a)               in the portion following paragraph (1)(b) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity";



(b)               in subsection (2) by adding ", social condition, political belief or activity" after "sex".



5                           Section 6 of the Act is amended



(a)               in the portion following paragraph (1)(b) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity";



(b)               in subsection (3) by adding ", social condition, political belief or activity" after "sex".



6                           Subsection 7(1) of the Act is amended by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity".



7                           Section 12 of the Act is amended



(a)               in paragraph (a) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity";



(b)               in paragraph (c) by striking out "or sex" and substituting ", sex, social condition, political belief or activity".
Amendment :Add after section 7 the following:

8(1)Subject to subsection (2), this Act comes into force on December 31, 2004.

8(2) The Lieutenant-Governor in Council may proclaim this Act or any provision of this Act to come into force before December 31, 2004.
