May 1 - 7 is National Forest Week in Canada. This year's National Forest Week theme focuses on the boreal forest, which stretches across our northland from Newfoundland and Labrador to northeastern British Columbia and up into the Northwest and Yukon Territories.
Dr. John E. Richards, Director General of Natural Resources Canada, and Premier Bernard Lord commemorated Forest Week by planting a ceremonial bur oak outside the Hugh John Flemming Forestry Centre in Fredericton . They also toured the science labs of the Canadian Forest Service inside the centre.
