Recent deer management efforts and milder winters throughout much of New Brunswick have helped increase the deer population in the province. For the past seven years, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has issued fewer antlerless deer permits. Biologists estimate that there are over 100,000 deer in the province, up from 60,000 in 2000, with the average annual harvest approaching 10,000. Wildlife managers and hunters alike look forward to taking advantage of zones where deer herds are approaching carrying capacity.
