Gary Purves has made extraordinary contributions to the radio amateur community in the area of wireless data networks. He built the provincial wireless e-mail network, years before there were comparable commercial networks, and more recently, has developed a province-wide network to track mobile radio stations known as APRs. He Gary has donated hundreds of dollars worth of equipment to support the amateur radio emergency service, as well as countless thousands of hours of his own time. His expertise and personal contributions have enriched the amateur community and made New Brunswick safer. A retired Aliant technician, Purves continues to serve as an important volunteer and member of the Emergency Measures Communications Group.
