Kelly Lamrock
Minister of Social Development Minister Responsible for Housing Minister responsible for the New Brunswick Provincial Capital Commission Kelly Lamrock was first elected to the Legislative Assembly on June 9, 2003 to represent the riding of Fredericton-Fort Nashwaak and he was re-elected on Sept. 18, 2006. On June 22, 2009, Minister Lamrock was named Minister of Social Development, Minister responsible for Housing, and Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission. Minister Lamrock was first appointed as Minister of Education and Minister responsible for the New Brunswick Provincial Capital Commission by Premier Shawn Graham on October 3, 2006. During this time, Minister Lamrock also served as Chair of the Council of the Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) and the Conference of Ministers of Education in French-speaking Countries (CONFEMEN). Lamrock served as Official Opposition House Leader, critic for matters pertaining to learning, employment, innovation, democratic reform, human rights and the Provincial Capital Commission. He was also a member of the Standing Committee on Estimates, the Standing Committee on Procedure, and the Legislative Administration Committee. Lamrock earned a bachelor of arts from St. Thomas University in 1995 and a law degree from the University of New Brunswick in 1997. He served as president of the student union at both universities, as national chair of the Canadian Federation of Students and was a founding president of the New Brunswick Student Alliance. In 1998, Lamrock became the director of policy and communications for the New Brunswick Healthcare Association, a group representing New Brunswick's hospital corporations. He went on to serve as director of student affairs at St. Thomas and has taught political science courses at both St. Thomas and UNB in Saint John. Lamrock has been very active in community theatre groups and has volunteered his time to a variety of fundraisers. He is past president of the St. Thomas University Alumni Association and a member of the New Brunswick Law Society, the Canadian Bar Association, and Amnesty International. Lamrock and his wife Karen have two children, Kennedy and Kayleigh. |
