Description: This quarry located on the east bank of Springhill Brook about 600 m south of Highway #102 at Springhill, 7.5 km west of Fredericton. Springhill Construction Ltd. (formerly Diamond Construction Limited) operates the quarry and adjacent processing facility on a seasonal basis. The source rock is a light grey, medium- to coarse-grained, generally noncalcareous, lithic, feldspathic wacke, interlaminated with siltstone and shale. Wackes are typically well indurated in beds up to 1-2 m thick (Hamilton and Carroll 1975). These rocks, referred to as the Burtts Corner Formation are part of the Silurian, Kingsclear Group (St. Peter and Fyffe 2005). |
