In February 2009 the Department of the Environment, in response to residents' concerns about the impact of emissions from industry and heavy truck traffic in the MacAleese Lane area, agreed to put an air quality monitoring vehicle on private property at the west end of McKay Avenue, a residential street that runs parallel to MacAleese Lane.

The purpose of this exercise was to study air pollutants in the area until the end of the year. After a meeting with residents and parents it was decided to remove the air quality monitoring vehicle in mid- December.

Over the next few months, officials at the Department of Environment will compile the data and will prepare a summary report of the results. The results will be shared with the Departments of Health and Education. A preliminary analysis of the results from the months of February to July 2009, showed no major air quality problems in this area.
