The one-cent New Brunswick stamp was first issued in May 1860 and its locomotive illustration celebrated the imminent completion of the European & North American Railway line from Saint John to Shediac in that year.
This is the second issue in purple with claret highlights, in contrast to the brownish-purple of the first issue.
