Biography
I was born in Saint John and currently live in Quispamsis, although I have spent many years 'away'. I love New Brunswick's scenic routes, bustling cities and quaint villages, and have always been fascinated by its rich history. My grandmother instilled in me a love of reading at a very early age and encouraged my writing. I’m the author of several regional books (New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada), and work as a freelance writer and editor, and photographer. I also conduct workshops for those interested in travel and memoir writing. Two of my titles (Shipwrecks Off the East Coast and Scenic St. Martins: Jewel of the Bay of Fundy) are both in their third printing. A Pictorial Walk Through Historic Saint John will be going to a second print run later this year.
How has New Brunswick influenced your work?
I grew up in a rural area outside of Saint John and one of my earlier memories is going to the Saint John Free Public Library with my grandmother. On one occasion she told me I needed to know the history of where my family came from (both New Brunswick and Ireland) and so began my journey of discovering New Brunswick's history and learning about its rich culture. I love reading about all the quirky and enterprising people who live (or have lived) in the province. A good question to ask is how could New Brunswick not inspire or influence a writer's work?
What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?
I don’t really have a favourite New Brunswick book and enjoy reading whatever my writing friends and acquaintances from New Brunswick have published. I simply love a 'good read' whether it is fiction, non-fiction, young adult or poetry!
What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?
I would say the highlight of my career is just having the freedom to do something I love - write!
