How has New Brunswick influenced your work?

Saint John NB, its people, the Bay of Fundy, its harbour, surroundings and history. Since 1965, for this former Berliner, this new home of mine, had and still has a tremendous influence on my work and life.

What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?

I love quite a few and do not wish to single any one out.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?

Here in Saint John on the now famous Bay of Fundy, I have experienced so many highlights in teaching, writing, art-making, kayaking and community volunteering that I do not wish to single out. Oh wait. Maybe there is one: December 6, 1989, my students and I published a little book, entitled Saint John NB Times Four, as choppy as the sea which surrounds us, embracing local history from 1604 till UNBSJ's 25th anniversary, in the FOUR languages taught then at our little campus, in English, French, German and Spanish…and then topped off this happy-making event, a month later, with the creation of a scholarship with the same name, whose Board - with students on it - from 1990 - 2005 awarded twenty one thousand dollar scholarships to UNBSJ students.
