Biography
I was born in Village-Blanchard and graduated from Polyvalente Louis-Mailloux in Caraquet. I obtained my BA in History (1975) and my master’s degree in History (1982) from the Université de Moncton and my doctorate in History from Université Laval in Quebec City. I have worked at Université Sainte-Anne (Church Point, Nova Scotia), the National Archives in Ottawa and the Université de Moncton (Shippagan campus), where I was dean of studies from 1991 to 1994, and have been a history professor since 1995.
How has New Brunswick influenced your work?
Naturally the Francophone areas of New Brunswick inspire me, since I chose to live there. I try to tackle parts of its history that have not been dealt with as much, to help familiarize people with it.
What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?
Les marées du Grand Dérangement by Claude LeBouthillier. It is a historical novel that is very well written.
What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?
To have won two prizes for two of my first four works.
