Biography

My suspense novels, Listen to the Shadows and Nowhere to Hide were published by Zebra Books, New York. Chill Waters was published by Wings Press. All 3 are available in hardcover, large print from Ulverscroft Books, and in Author's Guild Editions, available at most online bookstores, including amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. My articles and short stories have appeared in such diverse publications as The Toronto Star, Atlantic Advocate, Seek, Home Life Magazine, Mystery Scene, The Writer's Magazine, The New Brunswick Reader, Fredericton Daily Gleaner, New Freeman and Kings County Record. My short story “Dark Reunion” was selected for the anthology Investigating Women, Published by Simon & Pierre.

I have held workshops and given talks at various schools and libraries in the area, including New Brunswick Community College, and taught courses in creative writing at the University of New Brunswick, and gave a workshop/reading at the Bloody Words Conference in Toronto. Also chaired a short story competition while regional VP of Crime Writers of Canada. For several years I’ve been a tutor with Winghill School, a distance education school in Ottawa for aspiring writers. My work was endorsed by a $10,000 Grant for a novel-in-progress, from the Canada Arts Council.

How has New Brunswick influenced your work?

New Brunswick has influenced my books because this is home, and I am in part a product of my roots. I know the people, the flora and fauna. The mentality and sensibilities inevitably find their way into my work.

What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?

I have enjoyed a number of books by New Brunswick writers, including Mark Blagrave, author of Silver Salts. This is a wonderful book, creative storyline and beautifully written.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your career so far?

It was lovely to have Chill Waters win the Bloody Dagger Award. And equally lovely to have a reader tell me my darn book kept them up all night. But the real highlight is the actual writing. That's the only thing over which I have direct control. That's the gold.
