The Plaster Rock Public School Library was established in 1978, with the official opening held on May 25th of that year. Located in Tobique Valley High School, the dream of a community library became a reality when renovations were undertaken to the existing school gymnasium to create a space for a new library which would serve both the needs of the school and the community. The “new’ library opened to the public on November 6, 1978. Two regular programs were initiated, a weekly Story hour, which has continued to this day, and an arts and crafts program for young people, which is also offered as interest warrants. The library continues to thrive both within the school and the community, responding to the needs and interests of our patrons. We have expanded beyond books to include a full range of services to our patrons, from accessible formats to makerspaces and object collections. The first annual report for our library ended with the sentence “ With such auspicious beginnings, we are optimistic about the future.”. This is still true today.
